Work backwards from the vehicle rather than the job title. If you can tell us the configuration — rigid or articulated, how many axles, roughly what it weighs — or read us the job ad, we will tell you the class it needs. Aiming higher than necessary costs money you did not need to spend; aiming lower means doing a whole course twice.

Generally yes. Each heavy vehicle class has a minimum period you must have held the class below it, and provisional licences are treated differently to full ones. Because the answer depends on your individual licence history, we check it for you rather than publishing a rule that might not apply to you. Tell us what you hold and the date it was issued.

Your current licence, closed-in shoes you can feel the pedals through, and glasses or contacts if your licence requires them. Skip anything with a thick sole or a heel. For heavy vehicle lessons, wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty — coupling is a hands-on job.

HC — Heavy Combination — is a prime mover pulling a single semi-trailer, or a rigid truck towing a heavy trailer. MC — Multi Combination — is a B-double or a road train, so more than one trailer. MC is longer, heavier and demands much more forward planning, and it is where most long-haul and bulk freight work sits.

There is a dedicated HR to MC upgrade pathway that bypasses the usual HC step, and we run it as its own course. Whether it is open to you depends on how long you have held HR and what else is on your record. Call with your licence details and we will tell you straight away — and if you are not eligible yet, exactly what needs to change.

We train LR, HR, HC and MC, plus car licences and Bus Driver Authority support. If you have been told you need MR specifically, call us and we will help you work out whether that is really the class the role requires — it often is not — and point you in the right direction either way.

No, and this catches people out regularly. Your licence class decides what size vehicle you may drive. The authority decides whether you may drive it commercially with passengers aboard. You need both: an LR or HR licence for the bus itself, and the authority on top of it.

It depends on the class, how recently you have driven, and how quickly reversing and gear work come to you. Some drivers are assessment-ready after a short course; others want more time behind the wheel first, which is completely normal. We will give you a realistic answer after your first lesson rather than a number before it.

Yes. We run seven days a week from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, so an early lesson before a shift or an evening one after are both normal. If your roster changes week to week, tell us and we will work around it instead of holding you to a fixed weekly slot.

Both are available for car lessons. For heavy vehicles the transmission you are assessed in can affect what your licence lets you drive afterwards, so it is worth deciding early rather than late. Tell us the kind of work you are heading into and we will recommend which way to go.

Give us as much notice as you can and we will move it. Life happens — shifts change, kids get sick, vehicles break down. What we ask is that you tell us rather than not turning up, because a held slot is a slot another student could have used. Our cancellation terms are set out on the terms page.

Yes. You will drive the roads, turns and reversing areas that assessments use, often enough that they stop feeling like a special occasion. There is no trick to it — the point is simply that on the day, the route is not one more unfamiliar thing to deal with.

We will tell you, honestly, and we will not put you in for an assessment before you are. That occasionally means a later date than either of us wanted. It is still cheaper than a failed attempt, and much better for your confidence than being sent in to find out the hard way.

It is not the end of anything. We go through what happened, work specifically on that, and get you back in. Most people who do not pass first time are undone by one identifiable thing rather than a general lack of ability, and one identifiable thing is very fixable.

It depends on the class and how many hours you need, so give us a call and we will quote you properly rather than give you a headline number that turns out not to apply. What we will tell you before you book is exactly what is included and what is not.

We will make this explicit when we quote you, because it is one of the most common places people get an unwelcome surprise. You will know what the course covers, what the assessment costs and who pays it before you commit to anything.
