Heavy vehicle licences are a progression — each class builds on the one before it. Here is the whole path, drawn to scale, from a first driving lesson to a multi-combination ticket. The two things that sit off the main road are marked as such.
About the school
Instruction that treats you like a driver, not a booking
ESH’S Truck Driving School trains people who need a licence for work, not a certificate for the wall.
Most of the people who call us are changing direction — leaving a trade, coming off the tools, arriving from overseas with a licence that doesn’t transfer, or moving up a class because the work they want needs it. That shapes how we teach. Lessons are one-on-one, paced to the driver rather than a syllabus, and built around the vehicle and the routes you’ll actually be assessed in.

Common questions
The questions we get asked most
It depends on the class, how much driving you have done recently and how quickly you pick up reversing and gear work. Some drivers are assessment-ready after a short course; others want more time behind the wheel first. We’ll give you a straight answer after your first lesson rather than a number before it.
Generally yes — each heavy vehicle class has a minimum period you must have held the class below it, and there are rules about provisional licences. The exact requirement depends on your licence history, so tell us what you hold and when you got it, and we’ll confirm precisely what applies to you before you book anything.
Both are available for car lessons. For heavy vehicles, the transmission you are assessed in can affect what your licence lets you drive afterwards, so it is worth deciding early. We’ll talk it through with you and recommend what suits the work you’re heading into.
Yes. We run seven days a week from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, so early lessons before a shift and evening lessons after one are both normal. If your roster changes week to week, tell us and we’ll work around it.
